How do Christians and Jews Pray? What is the meaning behind the prayer calendar? What are the most central prayers in our respective religious traditions? How do we worship at home? How and when do we pray as a community? As individuals?
Week 2: January 27 - The Holidays and Ritual Calendar - Temple Beth Sholom - Reverend Blyth
How do our faiths celebrate our holidays? Special seasons? Where do the instructions for the observance and celebration of our holidays come from? What are “obligations” and what are merely “customs” or “traditions”?How do different denominations and movements within our religious traditions observe the holidays differently than the path we have chosen at our own church and synagogue?
Week 3: February 10 - Birth, Childhood, Bar/Bat Mitzvah, Marriage, Divorce, Love - St. Armands Key Lutheran Church - Rabbi Altshuler
How do our religious faiths celebrate and mark passages of life? What are the meanings of our sanctified rituals? What are the theological and moral understandings of why we Christians and Jews do what we do to mark these vital times in our lives?
Week 4: February 17 - Aging, Illness, Visiting the sick, Death, Mourning - Temple Beth Sholom - Reverend Blyth
The most difficult part of life: how do our religious traditions guide us through the most difficult transitions in life—from illness, to death and mourning? How do we bury? How do we grieve for loved ones?
